Why are we posting vegetarian and religious articles ?

(1/1)

Sandra John:
I don't see that any such justification is necessary.  It should be obvious that both vegetarianism and religious belief are major influences on the behaviour of people who subscribe to them and on society in general.   Vegetarianis is obviously highly compatible with animal welfare and people should know too that the, "religious beliefs", that supposedly justifiy live exports to the Middle East are irrelevant.  In the first place (as I'm sure you know) Halal meat can be provided from Australia chilled.  More to the point Islam does not (in principle) condone the gross cruelties perpetrated in this trade (either on ship or when landed).  In the words of, "The Prophet ", "there is a reward in heaven for every kindness to animals".  The religion of Islam does not support cruelty to animals, nor do the leaders of Islam in Australia who are opposed to the live export trade.

WA Export Info:
Why are we posting vegetarian and religious articles in a forum on Live Animal Export?

Apart from economic 'justifications' for the continuance of the live animal export trade; the government and meat industry regularly cite cultural & religious beliefs as other 'justification' for the live export of animals to other countries.

We are simply offering up other cultural & religious viewpoints as a counter balance to these 'pro-export' arguments - make up your own mind on their relevance.
