Australia - RSPCA had their heads up their backsides for years

31 Jul 2010

A NSW farmer lobby group has slammed the RSPCA, calling for the State Government should reduce the animal welfare organisation's powers.

NSWFarmers says parts of its membership, especially from the Gunnedah Branch, have "raised questions" about some of the RSPCA's recent cases.

The RSPCA is bemused by the motion, which was passed by a majority of members at the NSWFarmers 2010 annual conference.

The RSPCA says there is already significant Government oversight of its operations through the NSW Department of Industry and Innovation and the Livestock Health and Pest Authority.

RSPCA NSW chief executive Steve Coleman says he has tried to talk with NSWFarmers, but the organisation is "all talk, no action".

We can site numerous cases of heavy handed ignorant RSPCA behaviour

Going back to 1990 shooting ewes at a meat plant in Kempsey during the Xmas holiday’s, with local TV camera’s in tow.

To doing the same thing in Victoria in 2001 as well as the recent cases.

The RSPCA have no knowledge of farms or farm animals and while indeed they may be well meaning, they are in fact a bloody nuisance.

For the RSPCA to say they are bemused is not surprising as they have had their heads up their backsides for years.

That response from the NSW farmer lobby is indeed the pot calling the kettle black.

RSPCA NSW may not be the best animal welfare advocates but they sure as hell beat ANY farmer lobby group hands down.

This we add is a farmer group who support the export of live animals to a barbaric Middle East. They hardly qualify for having credibility.
