Ex-member says RSPCA failing

Posted 1 hour 11 minutes ago

A former interim head of Tasmania's RSPCA has accused the organisation of failing to protect animal welfare.

Suzanne Cass stood down as acting president of the organisation in April this year and is now a member of Stop Tasmanian Animal Cruelty.

Ms Cass says the administration of RSPCA Tasmania has broken its promise to reduce administrative costs and spend more on animal welfare projects.

She says the board is spending too much on administration and not enough on protecting animals.

"It was all supposed to be about making the shelters better, getting animals out into foster care when they get stressed out in the shelters. There's been no moves that I can see on that," she said.

Ms Carr, who is now a member of Stop Tasmanian Animal Cruelty, says she quit the organisation because it has become too 'ego-driven' and 'secretive.'

"I would like to see them step back, have a look and do something for animals instead of for themselves and for people."

"As far as I've been able to tell, there has been little or no improvement or contribution to anything that directly benefits Tasmanian animals."

The RSPCA has not been available for comment.

The original intention of the establishment of the organisation was sound, however over 100 years on things have changed dramtically.

The RSPCA is a fertile ground for farmer infiltration. We need only to be reminded of the 4 Corners story: A Blind Eye to see the effects of farmed animal industry alleged control over an animal organisation.

Sadly it seems the RSPCA is about making money and looking after those at the top at the expense of the companion animals. They care not one jot for animals used for food.

In WA over 1.3 million sheep and cattle have been exported alive. Why was the RSPCA not present at any time during the loadings?

Why is it govt supports the RSPCA- is it because the charity does the govt bidding and fails to prevent or act on animal cruelty within the livestock industry?

All very convenient.
