Emanuels sends sheep to Philippines - including pregnant ones

The 5,800 sheep purchased from a supplier in Perth, Australia, arrived yesterday at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. with one of them giving birth to two lambs while being unloaded from the cargo vessel, Dr. Renente Decena said yesterday.

Decena said the sheep will be quarantined at the Negros First Ranch in Sta. Rose Mucia that was identified by the Bureau of Animal Industry. By Feb. 27, the sheep will be ready for marketing, he added.

While being quarantined, the Provincial Veterinary Office will feed them with napier and stylo santhes grasses mixed with concentrates to help them regain their health and strengthen their immune system, Decena said.

Representatives from the supplier, Emmanuel Livestock and the dealer, Livestock Exports Inc., brought the sheep all the way from Perth, he added.

Decena said they will meet with the Livestock Marketing Committee next week to establish the standard pricing of the sheep when they are sold to local government units and private sheep raisers.*LTG
