Turkey approval good news for WA.

In good news for WA livestock producers, the Federal Government has granted approval for one Australian livestock exporter to begin exporting both sheep and cattle to Turkey.

john Edwards, chair of the WA Livestock Exporters Association says the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance Scheme, or ESCAS, approval brings an important market on-line.

Mr Edwards says Turkey represents the second largest live export cattle market behind Indonesia and equal third largest live sheep export market for Australian producers.

"This spells good news for producers here in Western Australia and Australia for that matter. Turkey is a relatively new market and a market that has shown a great lot of promise in the last couple of years."

Mr Edwards says a ship will be leaving for Turkey soon.

"It's currently being prepared as we speak, it'll start in the eastern states first up and then its' last port of call will be here in Fremantle before it moves off to Turkey."
