Sydney rally against live exports 15. April 2012
« Reply #1 on: April 15, 2012, 03:46:30 PM »
More than a hundred people have turned up at a rally against live animal exports.

The federal government temporarily suspended all live cattle exports to Indonesia in June last year, after graphic footage showed cattle being abused.

Protesters want live exports to be banned permanently.

NSW Greens MP David Shoebridge was among the protesters at Town Hall Square on Sunday.

"I'm here on behalf of the Greens calling an end to live exports," Mr Shoebridge told AAP at the rally.

"In the last three decades we have seen 2.5 million animals die just on the journey to overseas slaughter.

"That of itself is a sufficient reason to end this cruel practice.

"Showing up on a Sunday shows how passionate the Australian electorate is to end live animal exports."
