A new consignment of 200 heads of rotten sheep was seized at Bahrain International Airport and destroyed yesterday, according to a Muharraq Municipal official.

This came a day after quantities of frozen Pakistani meat on sale in the market was found infected, revealed Muharraq Municipal Council deputy chairman Ali Al Muqla.

In another case, a ship named Ocean carrying 21,000 heads of infected sheep anchored in Bahrain, he told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. He accused Bahrain Livestock Company of importing meat that is not frozen properly.

Earlier, authorities seized 10 tonnes of rotten meat that arrived in Bahrain during the Eid holidays.

Officials from the Health and Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs ministries intercepted the potentially dangerous cargo, which involved around 400 carcasses, during random checks of incoming ships.
