On Saturday, 6 October, our friends at Animals Australia will be holding rallies against live export in several major Australian cities.

As you are no doubt aware, live export is currently facing yet another animal welfare crisis following the inhumane slaughter of thousands of Australian sheep who were reportedly clubbed and stabbed to death and even buried alive in Pakistan.

Despite the massive public support for a ban on this terrible industry and the ongoing revelations about the inhumane treatment of Australian animals, the government is still choosing to support the private companies who make their money from exporting Australian animals for slaughter to countries with few or no animal protection laws.

There is simply no humane way to transport tens of thousands of animals through the searing heat on cramped, filthy ships for journeys lasting days or even weeks. Those who do not die of illness or injury along the way are often slaughtered in ways that are illegal in Australia.
