Australia blamed for sheepmeat shortage in Bahrain. By Caitlyn Gribbin
 Tuesday, 18/12/2012

Australian sheep exporters are being blamed for a shortage of meat in the Middle East nation of Bahrain.
The Gulf Daily News say the availability of fresh meat in Bahrain has halved since Australian live sheep exporters suspended trade to that country.
The Australian industry made the decision after Bahrain rejected a shipment of sheep in September on disease concerns, and the animals were eventually culled in Pakistan.
Bahraini media reports say sheep are now being sourced from Somalia, but the animals are half the size of Australian sheep, yet cost the same.
Chilled meat imports are helping meet the shortfall.
