Live export protest planned for Ringwood

ANIMAL activists are rallying the troops for a ban live export protest outside a federal community cabinet meeting in Victoria.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard and government ministers will meet in Ringwood next Wednesday.

An Animals Australia spokeswoman said the rally would be smaller than previous ones held on the steps of Victorian parliament but would voice the group's concerns about the live animal export trade.

The gathering will be held between 4pm and 6pm outside the Norwood Secondary College in Ringwood.

The group's website says the event with be "peaceful and respectful".

Animals Australia's Lyn White has been instrumental in the group's campaign against live animal exports.

In 2011, the live cattle trade to Indonesia was stopped for a month after Ms White's footage of animal cruelty in Indonesian abattoirs was aired on ABC television.
