China shows interest in live export industry.

The Premier Colin Barnett, says the Chinese government expressed a strong interest in importing beef from Western Australia, during his recent trip to China.

Mr Barnett says he will work together with China's Minister for Agriculture on the beef trade and may set up a formal Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

He told the ABC's Country Hour that private Chinese companies also showed a lot of interest in the live export trade.

"With some private companies in China, there was a fair bit of interest in the prospect of live animal exports from Australia or Western Australia my case, to southern China," he said.

"Obviously the slaughter proceedures would have to meet Australian standards, and I don't think there would be an issue there. "
