Rare cattle shipment to leave Port Hedland for Israel

A ship with 8000 head of cattle is due to leave Port Hedland for Israel in the next few days.

It is the Pilbara's second cattle shipment in four years, an uncommon occurrence given the harsh climate and resource-rich landscape.

The cattle sourced from the Pilbara and Kimberley are being loaded on the ship today from the Hedland Export Yards.

Paul Keenan from Livestock Shipping Services says he hopes to secure at least 5,000 more cattle for another shipment before the year ends.

"Once this sails and the dust settles and it dries out a bit more, we'll be certainly calling on the agents and seeing what cattle are out there and then programming another one in four to six weeks," he said.
