Ballarat livestock agent fined for animal cruelty

A BALLARAT livestock agent has been fined for animal cruelty and placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond.

Michael John Preweek pleaded guilty to the charges in the Ballarat Magistrates Court on December 12.

The charges were found to be proven without conviction and Mr Preweek was ordered to pay $500 to the court fund and $99.20 in costs.

The Department of Environment and Primary Industries prosecutor Adrian Serratore told the court that in October 2011 a lamb under the care of Mr Preweek was found to have a
severely broken leg.

Mr Preweek admitted to being in charge of the lamb and loading it into his trailer.
