Record lamb exports expected this month  Australian lamb exports are predicted to hit an all-time record this month.

Meat and Livestock Australia says the price of trade and heavy lambs has crashed to its lowest level in nearly four years, below 350 cents a kilogram carcass weight.

Chief economist Tim McRae says a good season has boosted lamb exports.

"It will be a record-high month. It will be around 18,000 tonnes which would be the highest month on record, a lot of lamb going into the Middle East, China," he said.

"Whilst the volume is up and there's a lot more product going, the return we're actually getting for that product is down.

"That's a combination of the dollar, more product in the market, which always goes on the buyer's side of things, and also competition from New Zealand in those markets."
